Chiropractic is based on the belief that the body has the inborn ability for heal itself as long as it is free from interference. The Chiropractor has a number of different methods to determine where the body is suffering from interference, or what is called a “subluxation.” A subluxation is the misalignment or improper movement of a vertebra in the spine. These subluxations can cause pain and deterioration of the spine which is thought to be irreversible. A Chiropractor can use a wide variety of techniques to correct subluxations. In order for the spine to function properly it need to be free from these interferences known as subluxations.

Besides being adored by millions, these professional athletes utilize Chiropractic care to help them achieve optimal performance. I don’t know of many people who rely on their bodies more than professional athletes. For this reason, they are very selective with their healthcare needs. The fact that many of the top athletes rely on chiropractic care shows the benefits that are provided by skilled chiropractor.

Yes! Headaches that start in the neck have their
own name, Cervicogenic. Cervicogenic is Latin for starting (genic) and neck
(cervico). These headaches can be brought on by a number of different causes:
They can be traumatic (i.e. fall, car accident); they can be due to a repetitive
action at work; poor posture and many others. As a chiropractor, I look at
areas of the neck that are out of place or are moving incorrectly. By treating
these areas of the spine many headaches are completely resolved.

I will answer this one with another question.
What endures more force than any other part of our body throughout the day?
You guessed it, the feet. As the body strikes the ground our first interface
with the earth is our foot. The foot is responsible for absorbing a majority
of the force as we strike the ground. If the foot is not doing its job, the
force is transmitted up the chain to the knee, hips, back and even the neck.
In these cases a custom made orthotic can provide the proper foot function
and prevent injuries farther up the spine.

The majority of patients feel little or no discomfort while receiving a chiropractic treatment. Some people arrive to my office in so much pain that it is difficult to do anything without causing some discomfort. In these situations I use low force chiropractic techniques combined with other modalities to relieve the pain and discomfort.

Unfortunately this is a difficult question to answer. We are all very different and unique, therefore the problems we have are also very different and unique. I perform a detailed history and exam on each patient that visits Compass Chiropractic. Following the exam, I discuss the patient’s condition, diagnosis and what will be required to resolve the complaint. At this point we discuss the cost of care for the individual case.

Yes! A recent study published in the British Journal of Medicine compared different treatments for back pain. They looked at exercise, physical therapy and chiropractic. They found that the patients who received chiropractic care along with exercise resolved their complaints much faster than those who received the other treatment methods. At Highland Chiropractic we have dedicated an entire room to exercise and stretching. This allows us to teach patients how to take care of themselves while they are not at our office.
