As we mentioned last month, we are excited for and preparing for a Pedometer Challenge through the month of August! We are excited to promote healthy habits to our patients, so that you can continue influencing and encouraging our community toward healthier living via your circles of influence! As a reminder, stop by to sign up to sign up and pick up your pedometer to take part. We’ll be giving away 4 free massages in August (1 per week) to the people with the highest number of steps taken, so be sure to get in the habit of wearing your pedometer so that come August, you’ll remember to wear it and record your number of steps each day.

Walking 10,000 steps each day is now widely recommended for improving your health in areas including weight loss, fighting depression, increased quality of life, reduced blood pressure and more. Metabolic syndrome is the name of a group of risk factors linked to obesity that predisposes the risk for heart conditions and diabetes. Research has shown that individuals who walk between 5,000 and 10,000 steps a day are 40% less likely to develop metabolic syndrome,  and those who step 10,000 or more per day, are 72% less likely to develop this condition. If that’s not an incentive, I don’t know what is!
