A New Direction in Health

Is Chiropractic and Massage Covered for an Auto Injury?

There is no doubt that chiropractic is on the forefront of injury treatment especially when it comes to car accidents and auto injuries.  In college, chiropractors receive specific training in the treatment in the treatment of auto injuries and others like like myself have gone on to increase their knowledge in this area of study.

When someone is in a car accident their only concern should be getting well, but unfortunately in our fast pace society our health takes back seat to all the other complications following an accident.   The sooner you can get treatment for an auto injury the better.  Early treatment has been shown to decrease treatment time and prevent flare ups in the future.

If you have been in an accident you need to know your options for treatment.  Most people are not aware if their insurance covers chiropractic and massage therapy.  There are a number of different types of auto insurance available with different types of coverages and limits.

One particular part of your auto insurance is designed to cover medical bills, such as chiropractic, massage and rehab after an accident.  This coverage is called Med-Pay, short for Medical Payment.  If you’ve been in a car accident, this portion of your insurance will cover your chiropractic, massage and rehab.  As with most types of insurance, coverages differ, so it is important to know your benefits.  Coverage can range from $1,000 to hundreds of thousands depending on your policy.  Most insurance agents will recommend this coverage because it is inexpensive and takes care of your medical bills while you focus on getting better.  You can check your insurance statement and see if you have Med-Pay, if you don’t see it you can call you insurance agent and ask them.

If you don’t have Med-Pay, I would highly recommend it, especially if you don’t have insurance or have a high deductible plan.  Even a quick trip to the ER can leave you with thousands of dollars in medical bills.
